History

Our organization started when representatives from various rescue organizations utilizing motorcycles for fire suppression or rescue and medical work from 9 different countries around the world met in Pecs, Hungary for the first time from June 12-14, 2009.

This meeting allowed us all to exchange information, experience and technical know-how between each other and facilitated the rapid advancement in growth and operability amongst our groups. A joint decision was made at that time to once again meet in 2 years, to evaluate our progress.  It was at that meeting in Koper, Slovenia in 2011 that the decision was made to make our meetings biannual and an official Board was elected to govern the Association.

COVID-19 brought on challenges to meet during the pandemic, so virtual congress was created on-line becoming such a success, that its further implementation on the intermittent years of our live congresses was adopted.  Additionally, our live congresses are now hybrid so everyone around the world can take part to some degree to further their professional development.

IMRUA has grown rapidly in the past several years with Membership now spanning the globe on 6 of the 7 continents. Activity in IMRUA is still free and open to all motorcycle response unit members and organizations as well as certain special rescue units using bicycles and other unique forms of rescue mobility.
