Welcome to the webpage of the International Fire & EMS Motorcycle Response Unit Association (IMRUA), an internationally registered non-profit association based in Luxembourg, EU.
IMRUA is the largest professional association of fire department and emergency medical services workers who perform their duties on motorcycles. While the association has expanded to include members using bicycles and other special rescue vehicles, our core focus remains on two-wheeled motorcycle response units.
If the topic of Motorcycle Response Units (MRUs) interests you, we invite you to follow our website and social media platforms for updates, events, and professional insights.
IMRUA also sponsors biannual congresses and e-congresses, bringing together the most respected experts from various fields related to fire and emergency medical motorcycle response.
Our organization began in June 2009, when representatives from rescue organizations across nine different countries met in Pécs, Hungary. These organizations utilized motorcycles for fire suppression, rescue, and medical work.
The meeting enabled the exchange of experience, technical knowledge, and operational practices, leading to rapid development within participating units. In 2011, during a follow-up meeting in Koper, Slovenia, the decision was made to formalize the association, establish a governing board, and hold congresses on a biannual basis.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, IMRUA successfully transitioned to virtual congresses. Due to their success, online and hybrid events are now a permanent part of our professional development activities.
IMRUA’s mission is to facilitate and promote professional knowledge exchange among fire and medical professionals working on Motorcycle Response Units worldwide. Our goal is to support safer, more standardized operations while promoting the effective use of motorcycles in Fire and EMS services.
